As I was leaving Conquest Games Market on Saturday, Edward R Jones was coming in. I hadn’t bought anything at this market; I had in previous years, but my need for dice towers or RPG-inspired hot sauce by D-Twenty Sauce Co. is limited. But it wasn’t out of my way, as it was being held in my neighbourhood in Coburg. And Edward was about to offer me something that would make my day.

It was a photo of a rare sixties guitar effects unit: Companion PM-14 Amplifier Psychedelic Machine. “Psychedelic Machine”, the name alone sounds like a sixties band; its circuitry makes that authentic Hendrix psychedelic sound. And all Edward wanted in return was a photo credit in the first edition of A Looking Glass Jukebox.

Made in Japan by Shin-ei in 1969, a disproportionate number were shipped to Australia. And Edward had recently been repairing one.
